“Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” – James 2:17
Earlier, that passage says, “Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes or daily food. If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?” One of the key ways that we can contribute and gain a platform for the gospel is by working to meet the basic needs that we find from village to village. Currently, Give Life is building a series of school buildings in the nearby village of Chishiko, digging wells that will provide safe, drinkable water to the village, and working with local farmers to make sure there is enough food.
I have always loved to work with my hands and have had various types of construction jobs. Lord willing, He will use the skill of my hands to bless others. The projects we will be involved with will arise from our discussion with the local people and their leadership. One mistake we don’t want to make is going over there with “all the answers” and doing a lot of things “to them” or “for them”. Instead, we want to them to have ownership of both their problems and the solutions to those problems. We want to work “with them” and help them in the funding and completing of the projects.
1 John 3:17-19 - If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in His presence.
