The mission team from Ankeny (John Colyer, Mike Miller, Bill Price, Jim Poyzer, Matt Cubit, and Jeff Goerndnt) arrived on January 15th. The next airplane that landed in Zambia had Mickey’s parents (Fritz and Cathy Kinzenbaw) on it. We are so thankful to host our first mission team and look forward to having many of you come join us too.
We took the team on a tour of a few of the ministries that we work with here in Zambia. Chishiko village is just to the Southwest of our hometown, Chongwe. The projects and outreach there were pioneered by Stephen and Aby Nelms over the last four years. That village now has a reliable source of clean water through a borehole well. The school building there was built just over two years ago. It replaced a stick framed structure with a grass thatched roof which collapsed regularly during the rainy season. Nyezima preschool was our next stop in Chongwe. The Goerndnt family had organized some gifts for the school and some much needed supplies that were presented to the class here in this video. Needless to say, the kids and their teacher (Miss Doreen) were overjoyed! Our final stop for the day took us about an hour to the East of Chongwe to the Kalungula orphanage. Over 150 orphans are in Kalungula orphanage and the village does a good job of volunteering to help a man named Prince Musopelo who volunteers his time to oversee the orphanage. Together with our team, we sectioned out an area for a huge vegetable garden and put in the posts for a fence that will keep out all those chickens you see my kids chasing! If you are interested in donating for the continuation of this project at the orphanage, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
It was a long day but so good! Thank you for your prayers and support. Start praying now if you would ever consider coming for a two week mission trip….more details coming soon!
